Dodon Igor, was born 18 Feb 1975 in Sadova village, Calarasi district, Moldova.
He graduated from the economic faculty of the State agrarian University, faculty of Economics of the Moldovan Academy of economic studies, faculty of economic law International Institute of management.

From may 2005 until September 2006 he held the position of Deputy Minister of economy and trade. By the decree of the President of Republic Moldova Vladimir Voronin No. 764 — IV dated 18 September 2006 appointed Minister of economy and trade.
31 March 2008 by decree of the President of the Republic of Moldova No. 1592 — IV appointed first Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of economy and trade.

In June 2011, the candidate from the Communist Party in the elections of the General mayor of Chisinau, the results of which scored in round 1 48,07 % of voices, in the 2nd round — 49,40 % of the vote, losing to Dorin Chirtoaca.
On 4 November 2011, together with the deputies of the Parliament by Zinaida Greceanii and Veronica Abramciuc left fraction of the Communist Party, and on November 23, 2011 joined the Party of socialists (psrm).

According to the results of parliamentary elections of 30 November 2014 the Party of socialists headed by Igor Dodon gaining 20.51% of votes and forms the most numerous fraction in Parliament of XX convocation. Not supporting the government's program of Pro-European parties, the socialist Party went into opposition.
During mass anti-government demonstrations in Chisinau in January 2016 Igor Dodon jointly with Andrei Nastase and Renato Usatyi coordinated protest movement, and acted as one of the leaders of the opposition in the negotiations with the representatives of the ruling majority.
In the fall of 2016, was nominated by the socialists as a candidate in the presidential election October 30. Came out in the second round of typing 47,98 % of the vote.
13 November 2016 became the third popularly elected President of the Republic of Moldova (after Mircea Snegur and Petru Lucinschi), scoring 52,27 % of the vote. For the first time in 20 years a popularly elected head of the Republic.
